Introducing Heidi Detor, Project Manager for Furniture & Design Services.
Meet Heidi: Heidi Detor has been listening to librarians’ needs for 18 years. She joined the Gaylord customer service team in 1993 and learned a lesson she still uses as project manager of our free layout and design service: you have the most practical idea of how to use your space. “All I need to do is listen,” says Heidi. “Librarians know what functionality they need and what they want their patrons to be able to do,” she says. “I help them accomplish that, while factoring in things they may not have considered, like ADA requirements.” Whether you're redesigning an entire library or just one specific area, Heidi will ask for measurements, blueprints and photos of the space. She then creates a floor plan and a 3-D rendering of the space with your new furniture so you can see the finished product. “Seeing is believing,” says Heidi. These drawings are also useful for grant proposals to secure financing. Most importantly, Heidi helps you make the most of your budget. And because our service is free, you can devote all of your funds to your renovation instead of consultation fees. “You try on a pair of shoes and test drive a car before you buy them," says Heidi. "Why not see how your new library furniture will look installed before you order it?” Success Story: “After Hurricane Ike destroyed all our shelving, we contacted Gaylord for help in designing and purchasing new shelving throughout our library. The designer, Heidi Detor, could not have been more helpful.
